Debenham Travel Survey - 02 February 2010 at 10:55

DEBENHAM TRAVEL SURVEY

Suffolk County Council Transport Services is keen to improve passenger transport in your area and adapt services so they meet customer needs.

In conjunction with the above, Debenham Parish Council have initiated a new ‘Have Your Say’ question enabling you to vote on your opinion specifically about how Debenham is served by public transport.

As well as the questions asked, we have also provided a Comment feature to this News Item where you can tell us more about your suggestions for improvement e.g.

1) More services during peak hours (7:30am to 9 am / 4 pm to 7pm)

2) An extension to the existing route so that it caters for more remote parts of the area.

3) A reduction in price for those who use the service daily (discounted pass etc)

4) Family and/or group discounts at weekends to encourage the use of the service by those who wouldn't normally use it.

5) Suggestions re times where there is no bus service and maybe there should be one.

6) Or anything else that you may think of……………..

It's true that services to/from Stowmarket are infrequent. In fact there are services, but only twice on Thursdays (Nos.3 and 460), and once on the third Saturday of each month (No.6). Why two different services on Thursdays, I wonder? For more details look at the timetables available in various places in Debenham e.g. Post Office. Also see http://timetables.debenhamsuffolk.org.uk/, which needs updating a bit, if I'm convinced that anyone actually uses those web pages.

Having moved from Surrey to Debenham recently, I am surprised a the lack of bus services both to the east wnd West of the village. Are Stowmarket and Saxmundam out of bounds to the elderly folk of Debenham?

In Framsden there is no bus service to Debenham, our service village.
Framsden Parish Plan highlighted lack of tranport as a key issue for older and younger residents. Is Debenham PC aware of these communities that cannot access the local services and is this the purpose of the survey?
Could we look at what existing vehicles exist within our communities -schools Mini bus, church vehicles, local business vehicles, all of which may have periods of inactivity and which could be co-ordinated within a community transport scheme?
Could we co-ordinate a local car share scheme?
Train a local volunteer driver or two to 'scoop' up people from local communities or as a 'demand responsive scheme'. 'Soames' School buses could be filled by adults wanting to connect with Debenham buses to other destinations, etc
We need sensible rural transport that connects Debenham with it's local communities which it services. This issue was raised as an action that Debenham Area Transition - 'Growing Greener' would like to take further with an interest group. If we can help in any way please contact: growinggreener@hotmail.co.uk

My view is and has always been that it is supposed to be a Bus SERVICE
To me that means it should be affordable, which it is not.
Be able to use on Sundays, which it is not
Be able to use of an evening as people in Debenham do sometimes like to go to the Theatre, Cinemas and other events and maybe even have friends or relatives in Ipswich.
The Bus route needs to be looked at again for those pupils attending Northgate 6th Form
