Summary of the July 2007 meetings of
Debenham Parish Council (PC)
Lorry Survey. The Council was surprised that the results from the recent traffic survey carried out by Suffolk County Council Environment & Transport concluded that there had only been a 10% increase over the past 10 years in the number of lorries, buses and coaches travelling through the High Street. However, it showed that 85 of these vehicles per day travel through the village and to minimse damage to buildings, trees and verges in this important Conservation Area the Council will continue to demand that a 7 ˝ Tonne weight limit be applied to the High Street, except for local delivery.
Parish Plan. Some of you may remember the Village Appraisal which was conducted back in 2001. The appraisal attracted a lot of grants which were used to fund items to improve our village. Well it is now time to renew that appraisal! (which is now called the Parish Plan) This is NOT a Parish Council exercise; this must be a parishioner-led initiative, with all the required support from the Parish Council and Suffolk ACRE. So if you are interested in doing something to positive to improve our village please contact Alan or Coral Moreton on 01728 860573.
Street Lighting. Following a request from the owner, Council has agreed to arrange for the street light fixed to the rear of the Red Lion in Little Back Lane to be removed. Consultation with near-by residents has not yet identified an acceptable alternative location . Council has therefore extended the consultation period to the 15th October 07. so please let us know whether you feel a light is needed in Little Back Lane and where it should be placed.
Website. The polling/voting facility on the village website has proven to be very valuable. Council will be contacting the schools, clubs and other organisations to explore whether they would like to use it.
First Quarter Accounts. The first Quarter Accounts were presented to Council. All found to be in order and all budgets on track for this Financial Year.
Cemetery Following the latest Health and Safety Legislation, members of the Cemetery Committee have recently carried out a topple ‘push’ test on the memorials in the Aspall Road Cemetery, with very surprising results! 84 graves were found to be either dangerous or unstable. Letters have been sent to the families responsible for the memorials in immediate danger, the remaining 80 unstable graves will have a sign attached to them requesting that a family member makes contact with the Council where advice will be given as to how to repair the memorial
