Possible Development
Land in Debenham - The Landbid Process
Mid Suffolk District Council (MSDC) is in process of reviewing
its current planning policy. Part of the review requires MSDC to
meet strategic growth for the District as required by national
policy. To meet the demand for increased housing, employment and
leisure MSDC has invited ‘landbids’ from landowners and
developers – ie, sites that may be suitable for development. The
landbid process will help MSDC identify appropriate sites for
development but there is no obligation or commitment to develop
any of these sites, hence the consultation process.
The planning policy review has set out a new village hierarchy
for Mid Suffolk : Towns, Key Service Centres and Primary
Villages. Debenham has been designated a Key Service Centre.
We are informed that Key Service Centres are potential locations
for strategic growth and primary villages may take some
small-scale housing allocations. In the landbid process Six
possible sites for development have been identified for Debenham.
MSDC is keen to hear the views of local people
to any proposed landbids and to facilitate this locally
parishioners are invited to attend a series of open sessions
being held at various locations throughout the District to :
•
Understand the process of site allocation
•
View
the landbids received
•
See
how sustainability and planning policy constraints affect
different bids
•
Indicate preferences/concerns for particular sites based on an
understanding of local knowledge

At
the event on 19 Dec,
visitors
were given 3 green dots and 3 red dots. They were invited to
put the green dots on the sites that they thought the most suitable for housing (or playing field), and the
red dots on the sites that they thought the least
suitable for housing. They could stick the 3 dots of the
same colour all on one site, all on different sites or 2 and

the exhibition ended (courtesy of Tony
