It has been another good year in the life of the woodland and lake. Despite the long hot spell back in June and the resultant drop in water levels we didn’t lose any fish and the lake soon recovered when the rain came.
November saw the final stage of the major tree planting and many village organisations turned up to plant their own patch of woodland. The unusually warm weather and lack of rain made it a much more pleasurable experience than previous years.
February and March saw some torrential downpours which helped raise the level of the lake but also caused damage to the entrance path. The blockage under the access bridge has now been removed and hopefully we will not see a recurrence of this.
The grants issues that arose during the year have now all been resolved and the whole of the woodland is now included in a grant scheme.
Future Plans
Wildflower meadow – this is still on the plans and thanks to a very generous contribution from a villager this will hopefully be moving ahead this year. Someone from Suffolk Wildlife Trust is paying a visit in May to look at the site and give advice to us as to what would work best.
Specimen Trees – still on the list to be discussed and progressed, but not urgent.
Fruit Trees – to be planted around the edge of the flower meadow during the winter of 2007/8
Benches – Now that the overall shape of the woodland has been established we will be looking at putting in some benches.
Global Links – Establishing a global link is still on the agenda but time has not permitted us to make much progress.
